名詞は単数形？複数形？
さて、本日も英文で英文を添削していきます。みなさんも少しずつ「英語で英語を教わる」ことに慣れていってください。
使用単語research
I did research on the effect on typhoon.
I did research on the effect of typhoons. Words describing climate are often followed by “of”. 気候を表す言葉には、「of」が付くことが多い。
使用単語forest
Cutting forest is the cause of global warming.
OK. “Cutting forests” is called “deforestation”, in another word.
一般的な話として森林伐採を取り上げるならforestsと複数形にする。
使用単語reason
Give me your reason for coming late.
I would say “Give me the/a reason for being/coming late”. “Can you tell me why you are late?” is also good.
使用単語effect
The phenomenon has an negative effect on the world.
The phenomenon has a negative effect on the world. “N” is a consonant.” An “an” is placed before a vowel sound, such as a i u e o.
母音と子音に気を付けよう。
使用単語influence
Sleeping has an important influence on one’s health.
You like talking about health, don’t you?
使用単語environment
Bicycles are friendly to the environment.
Good. But it would be better to say “Bicycles are environmentally friendly”. Sounds more natural.
environmentally friendlyは環境問題に関するトピックの頻出単語なので覚えておくように。
使用単語skill
Good. You could say “What kind of skills do you have?”
使用単語matter
It is a dangerous matter.
使用単語value
The value of the yen is going down.
Good. You could say “falling down”
使用単語species
There is a need to protect endangered species.
使用単語thought
使用単語knowledge
He has a lot of knowledges of computer.
He has a lot of
knowledge about
computers. “Knowledge” is
uncountable
知識は数えられない名詞なので複数形にしない。またコンピューター一般の知識があるということでcomputersとする。
使用単語interest
He has an interest in playing the guitar.
Good. You could also say “He is interested in playing the guitar.”
使用単語idea
That’s
a good idea. “Idea” is countable.
数えられる名詞。
使用単語accord
His idea was in accord with my idea.
Good. You could say “His thoughts were in line with mine.”
“in accord with~” “in line with~”をこの機会に両方覚えてしまおう。
使用単語memory
I don’t have a good memory for studying.
Indeed. But this sentence sounds non-native. It would be better to say “I am not good at memorizing my studies.”
何かを記憶するのはmemorizeという単語を使う。”memory”という単語を使うなら”I don’t have very good memories of my school days. （学生時代はあまりいい思い出がない）”などのように使う。
