The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) is considering the introduction of a new system to eliminate the "drug lag" that delays the approval of drugs for pediatric cancer and intractable diseases in Japan compared to overseas countries. The MHLW will use as a reference the legal system in the U.S., which requires that drugs for children be developed at the same time as those for adults, and will promote their development based on recommendations that a MHLW study group will compile by the end of March.
